Which FURminator for cat to choose

Which FURminator for cat to choose

A few days ago I posted this video on my YouTube channel and due to the large number of comments and emails I’ve received I wanted to make a larger post to try to clear up as many doubts as possible about FURminator. I have made you a video with an explanatory graphic. I hope it is very useful!!

Long hair or short hair?

First of all, if you haven’t seen the video yet about which FURminator to choose (long hair vs short hair) I recommend that you watch it because it will clear most of your doubts.

As I mentioned in the video, there are people who have doubts when choosing FURminator because of the type of hair. Well, the first thing we must take into account is that, according to the manufacturer, this is the criterion that we must follow:

  • Cats with hair less than 5 cm = short-haired FURminator
  • Cats with hair length greater than or equal to 5 cm = Long-haired FURminator

So far so good, but until I made the previous video I received a lot of emails and comments from people who were in a kind of “cat hair limbo” and did not know if they should really select the long hair or the hair one. short. It is this type of situation:

1. My cat has long and short hair and I don’t know which is the best brush.

In this case my first recommendation is to take a meter or a ruler and measure the hair . Why? Because sometimes it happens that our cat has 3 cm hair in some parts and 4.9 cm hair (for example) in others, so if we follow the manufacturer’s instructions, that cat would have to use the short hair brush .

The opposite could also happen , parts of hair that are at 4.9 cm (very close to the limit) and the rest of the hair that is more than 5 cm and bushy. In that case, we would opt for the closest thing, which is the brush for long-haired cats.

In the event that it is very obvious that our cat really has long hair and short hair (for example 3 cm in some parts and 5 cm in others) we will choose the one that covers the most amount of hair. It may happen that our cat has abundant long hair but the head and legs are covered with short hair. In this case, we would opt for the long-haired brush, since it is the one that best meets the brushing needs of our cat, since long hair is the most abundant and usually requires the greatest attention and care.

If, on the other hand, our cat has a greater amount of short hair but shows some parts with long hair , such as the neck or tail, while the rest of the body has short hair, we should opt for the short-hair brush , since it will be more useful to us since the long hair brush does not have short bristles and close together and may not get enough grip on short hair. And what do we do with the zones? Do not hesitate to use it, even if it does not have the same effectiveness as on the rest of the body, it is worth giving a few passes even if it does not show as much effectiveness as on the rest of the body, it will continue to remove dead hair, only it will require a few more passes.

2. I have long and short haired cats at home but I only want to buy a FURminator.

This is one of the problems that you ask me most often. FURminator has a higher price than other cat brushes (it’s worth it!) and it is more than understandable that if we have a long-haired cat and a short-haired cat at home, we want to save and buy one “that works for both”.

Unless, by measuring the hair of your cats, it turns out that both are above 5 cm or below, a single brush will not work for both of you. But watch out! this situation is possible. Sometimes we have at home a cat with longer hair than the other and then when measuring them it turns out that the difference does not reach those 5 cm indicated by the manufacturer.

However, if you really have cats with hair of more than 5 cm and cats with hair of 5 cm, I will tell you that the brush that is suitable for one of them loses effectiveness in the cat for which it is not recommended.

So in this case we should ask ourselves which one we need the most.

If we have one or more cats with long , bushy hair, with a tendency to get tangled, shed a lot of hair around the house or form little balls of hair, then we should choose the long-haired FURminator.

If we have several short-haired cats and only one long-haired cat , perhaps the short-haired one is the most worthwhile.

And if we have one of each cat , simply the one that we find most necessary. I recommend that you watch the video because that is where you really see that it loses a bit of effectiveness when it is not the right model.

Can I use the long-haired brush on the short-haired cat and vice versa? Yes you can, but as you can see in the video it does not have the same results. As you already know, most cats do not have much patience with brushing, so the ideal is to collect as much hair as possible.

Big or small?

Following the publication of the previous video on the YouTube channel, there are also many people who have asked me if the large size (dark purple) or the small size (light purple or lavender) FURminator is more suitable.

The difference is that the blade of the smaller brush measures 4.4 cm and that of the larger one measures 6.7 cm (more than 2 cm wider).

In this case I would like to clarify one thing: FURminator recommends the large size for cats over 4.5 kg. However, in my opinion, the small model is more comfortable, since the blade of the comb fits perfectly between the ears, making it very comfortable to drag the hair from the head to the base of the tail.

In my opinion, for cats of “normal” size it is more comfortable and the small-sized brush will gain access to more areas. However, for very large cats, such as Maine Coons and cats around 7-8 kg, the dark purple (large) model is just as effective, but reduces the number of passes required to remove dead hair.

Buying a Whisker City Water Fountain

Buying a Whisker City Water Fountain

If you are looking to buy a new water fountain for your house, you will find a wide variety of choices. Some of them are catit, pineapple, and Zeus H2EAU drinking fountains.

Replacement filters prolong the life of your pet’s water fountain

If you have a water fountain for your pets, you should consider getting a replacement filter. Some come in packs while others are sold separately. Buying a filter is not always an easy decision. You need to take into account the cost, the type of filter and how frequently you want to replace the device. Having a water fountain filter in your home can make you and your family feel safer. It also saves you from the hassle of constantly buying bottled water.

The best way to determine which of these options is right for you is to consider your pets and your pocketbook. A savvy pet owner will look for a replacement filter that offers the best value. Also, a water fountain with a top notch filter should be easy to maintain and clean. This is especially true if your cat or dog has a tendency to drink from the faucet. Having a top notch filter will ensure your pet is drinking the purest of water.

Pineapple Cat Water Fountain

If you are looking for a new cat water fountain for your cat, you have a lot of options. Some are pricier, others more durable, and still others are inexpensive. However, it’s important to find one that suits your needs and your budget. You will also want to consider a few features before you make your final decision.

The first feature you should look for in a cat water fountain is a strong construction. These are usually made from robust materials, such as stainless steel. They are less likely to collect bacteria and other contaminants. Also, they are easy to clean and break down.

Some water fountains have a filtration system that removes odors and other contaminants from the water. Most of these recommend changing the filter every two to four weeks. However, some models, such as the Petlibro Capsule Automatic Pet Water Fountain, have an energy management system that allows the filters to last longer.

The Petlibro Fountain is an automatic fountain that features noise-insulated tubing. The water is pumped into the drinking basin, then flows through a filter tray. This is an easy and convenient way to give your cat fresh water.

Catit Fountain

If your cat is picky about drinking, he may be happy to get his daily drink from a Catit fountain. It offers fresh, pure water in three different flow rates.

This water dispenser is a popular choice among cat guardians. It is easy to assemble and maintain. The filter is designed to clean out dirt, hair, and debris.

Water flowing through the reservoir also helps your cat to avoid urinary tract disease. Proper hydration promotes saliva production, which aids in digestion.

The water level indicator lights up when it is time to change the water. The pump also creates a gentle, soothing stream that encourages your cat to drink.

Some models feature a “dish” surface that allows your cat to play in the water. However, playing in the water can make messes.

Aside from the stainless steel top and the vertical filtration system, the Catit fountain uses plastic parts. While BPA-free plastics are less hygienic than stainless steel, you can wash the fountain’s plastic parts in your dishwasher.
